Use Knife
Use Knife is the alter ego of Stef Heeren and Kwinten Mordijck, who also make beautiful weather at Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat. On their debut EP "Tropentarn" they combine post-punk, experimental pop and newer new beat.
Last summer Stef and Kwinten met the Iraqi musician Saif Al-Qaissy during auditions for a new dance performance by Seppe Baeyens and Ultima Vez. Saif plays darboeka, daf and riq and is also a member of Babylon Trio and Nawaris.
A little later the band came into contact with Antwerp-Iraqi visual artist Hussein Shikha. By means of the self-proclaimed "virtual weaving" he investigates how he can translate Iraqi carpets into animations. In addition, he integrates photos and videos of the Mesopotamian wetlands in his digital images. He provides Use Knife with visuals during the live show.
Together with Saif and Hussein, Stef and Kwinten want to further deepen the collaboration and prepare a future release and live set. For example, they will conduct initial research into the way in which Hussein's visual language can be integrated into the show, which they will then also prepare in Trix.
